This is amazing. I love Theo as mentor: older and more experienced with both understanding and ignorance. I love Theo supporting James/Emma's transformation. I especially love the theme of fluidity: both is Theo's expressions and between James and Emma. And even in the way Theo talks about how we must sometimes be a less-preferred or even fake version of ourselves for work or family, but that doesn't mean we can't be our true selves among kindred spirits. The line about Theo being ready to meet the family but the family not being ready was heart wrenching, but there was also hope in the way Theo spoke of the future. Their family is filled with big-hearted people who (I hope) will someday be able to understand and embrace Theo and Emma.
