HET Fic: Comfort for ely_baby

Yes, you read that correctly. I wrote het. No, it's not dirty. Don't worry, we'll be back to our usual scheduled programming shortly ;)

Title: Comfort
Pairing: Lily Luna/Hugo
Rating: R for swears
Word Count: 880
Warnings: 13 year olds cuddling, thoughts of cousincest, swearing, CC compliant.
Summary: Lily is worried about her family. As always, Hugo is there.
A/N: Set during The Cursed Child, but contains no actual details of anything that happens in the play. This is my first ever het story, written for [livejournal.com profile] ely_baby, whom I was lucky enough to meet recently. She was so enchanting, that I've been inspired to write her very unique OTP! I hope I have done Lugo justice, and that you enjoy this little thing ♥ Originally a one-shot, this is now a short series.

"Earth to Lily."

She startled from her thoughts, shooting a weak smile at her cousin as her fingers flitted idly between the chess pieces.

"Way you're playing tonight, I'd watch your fingers Lils. There'll be mutiny soon."

She sighed, chin in her hand, elbow propped on the edge of the table. "I don't know why I still let you talk me into playing, you know I'm pants at this." She’d been like this for days, unable to concentrate, too worried about her family.

"Usually you're pants, tonight you're in a whole new league of your own. Check. Again."

"Urgh..." Lily moaned, clenching her fingers in her hair. "I'm done, this is pointless." Her mind started to race again and Lily struggled to stay composed. All she had to go on were dismissive comments and overheard snippets. "I should go to bed." Anything to avoid drawing any more attention to herself. The whispers and furtive glances of the last few days had been bad enough. After her spectacular bag drop in the library that afternoon, sending quills and rolls of parchment shooting across the floor, she was keen to avoid drawing any more attention her way.

"Come here," Hugo said, nodding at the space beside him on the sofa.

"Why?" She wasn't sure why she felt so defensive, it was usually so easy to be around Hugo. He was always so relaxed, uncluttered, stress-free.

Blue eyes looked to the heavens as he sighed. "Just, come on," he insisted, smiling kindly and patting the seat beside him. With purposeful reluctance in the movement, Lily stepped around the table and flopped down beside him. She gave him her best 'now what?' side-eye.

When his arm reached around her, cupping her far shoulder, she stiffened. "What are you doing?"

"I have no idea what's going on with Albus or Uncle Harry, but I know what's going on with you. So come here."

“Hugo…”

“That’s my name, and you can’t spell it without ‘hug’, so come here.” He tugged at her, pulling until she leant against his side.

“Don’t—” she started feebly, but Hugo held her tightly to him.

“Don’t be daft.”

“People will start talking.”

“Pft, let them talk,” he scoffed, “Perverts… You’re my cousin, for Dumbledore’s sake!” He gave a strange, almost strangled sort of laugh. “I mean, how weird would that be… right?”

“Yeah, right,” Lily smiled weakly, resting her head against his shoulder. She resisted the urge to wrap her arm around his waist, or let her hand rest upon his thigh, or chest. She tried not to sink into his embrace, or take a deep inhale of that oh so familiar scent. Instead, she focussed on the soft thud-dum of Hugo’s heartbeat and his thumb rubbing soft circles against her shoulder. She wished she could stay here, always.

It wasn’t that she was short of admirers, she was pretty enough and the Potter name got her plenty of attention. But the other boys didn’t interest her — not the way Hugo did.

Something strange happened then. She was fairly sure she felt Hugo’s lips graze her forehead as he shifted in his seat to get comfortable. He rested his face against her head, taking a long, deep breath, her hair fluttering slightly as he slowly exhaled. It felt new, different, like something had shifted between them.

It felt… Intimate.

“Hugo?” she said, tentatively.

“Hm?”

“Do you ever think, maybe, we weren’t meant to be cousins?”

He went still, then. Slowly, he started to straighten up. She heard him open his mouth, take a breath, but a call from across the common room cut him off.

“Get a fucking room!”

“Finnigan, she’s my cousin, you sick fuck!” Hugo laughed, lobbing a cushion at him, which he dodged.

“I calls ‘em as I sees ‘em,” he winked, throwing the cushion back onto the sofa beside them and heading up to the boys’ dorms.

Hugo settled back down, tucking Lily firmly under his arm. “Don’t worry about Connor, it’s just banter.” His fingers threaded through a lock of her hair that hung over her shoulder. He seemed to check around them, then. He leant down, voice lowered, speaking close to her ear. “No matter what anyone thinks, I’m always here for you, Lils.”

Her heart skipped a beat. Surely he couldn’t mean…

But this time, it was definitely his lips pressed briefly and tenderly to her temple.

“Whatever you need. You know that, right?”

For a moment, she wasn’t sure how to reply. Her hand had fallen comfortably between them, and she moved it just so, causing Hugo’s top to rise up slightly. She stretched out, the backs of her fingers resting against the tiniest strip of bare hip. She felt Hugo’s chest swell with a silent sigh and looked up at him. He met her gaze, a private sort of smile on his lips, and she smiled back.

“I do, now.”

Nothing would happen overnight. They were young, and perfectly content to be children for as long as they could get away with it; a luxury that, they were all too aware, their parents hadn’t been afforded. But now Lily knew that she wasn’t alone in her feelings.

And, for now, that was all she really needed.

This story now has a sequel, Confrontation.

This is not a review. This is a placeholder for a review that is going to come tomorrow afternoon, because I'm not in the right state of mind to leave a coherent comment to this right now. YOU wrote het. YOU wrote my OTP. YOU wrote this for me. I am humbled and I love it and I love you. THANK YOU so much for this. God. I am speechless (I promise I won't be tomorrow). WOW. My day was just made, ta very much. I'm just rambling now, aren't I? Thank you again! Wait for my review! ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Alright. First of all, so sorry it took me this long to finally comment, but I was out all day and now I definitely owe you not one, but two reviews. One about the story and one about the fudge.

Let's start with the story, though, because that's basically what I thought about all day long as my roommate dragged me from shop to shop.

First and foremost, I loved this. I loved this SO freaking much, you have no idea. I loved this because you wrote it for me and because you wrote het when you specifically told me that you have never written het before, and I just can imagine how challenging it must have been for you to get out of your comfort zone - for me it would have been a nightmare. Still, let me tell you that you aced this. You aced both the het in general and my OTP. I am in awe of how well this turned out to be. God. SO. MANY. KUDOS. ♥

One of the things that I love the most are the characters. I remember you asking me about "my" Hugo while we were having that drink in Caffè Nero, and now I can't help thinking that you've been thinking about writing something for me since that afternoon and the idea warms my heart (you just confirmed this, so yeah.. my heart is even warmer now!). Back to the characters, though: you wrote an awesome Hugo and an awesome Lily, two of the best I've ever read, and I'm not just saying that. I love your Hugo; he is caring, sweet, protective of Lily, intelligent, flirty, and handsome - even though you don't really describe him in detail, I can see how handsome he is from the glimpses we get from Lily's perspective. And Lily? God, I love her. She's so much in need of comfort - perfect title - but I love the way she tries to pick herself up and how strong she tries to be for her family. I also love the fact that she is worried for her dad and her brother, it shows how very important her family is for her. I also love the fact that she has long hair (and that Hugo has blue eyes!), and that she is not as good at Wizard's Chess as Hugo is. Basically, you just managed to cram all my headcanon for these two in 800 words. I am floored by how much your remembered - honestly, did I even say all these things or are you a real witch? - of our conversation. I even loved Connor Finnegan - even though he interrupted them right when something was about to happen!!!! But I loved the banter between the two boys; it felt so real.

I love the cousins' relationship. They are the sweetest together. I especially love this line, “That’s my name, and you can’t spell it without ‘hug’, so come here.” This is SO Hugo, and I love it, and I already know what I will probably steal this line if I'll ever manage to write some Lugo again. I love how he basically orders her to come closer to him and to let him hug her and comfort her. I can't say that this is some male!dom - naturally, they are so young - but I love that he is in charge and that he hugs her and kisses her and whispers soothing words in her ears. I was squealing in such an undignified way while I read that part - alright, I was squealing during the whole story, I'll confess that much. I also love the idea of them being that close even when they are that young, and I totally agree that nothing should have happened if not some hugs and some incesty thoughts from both parts.

Thank you for choosing Lily's pov. She's perfect and I love to explore her confused thoughts while Hugo basically externalises his in such an outward way. I also love all the references there are about cousincest and how drama-free that is. The fact that Connor tells them to get a room, and that Lily asks Hugo if he thinks that maybe they weren't meant to be cousins, and how she says that she knows now that he'll always be there for her.. I just love all those details. They are sweet, adorable, and they make me squeal in an even more high-pitched way than the cuddly bits.

Llaeyro, I loved, loved, loved this. SO much. You have no idea. Really, thank you so much. I also wanted to tell you to post this on AO3, but you've beaten me to it. ♥ Now I'll get to it even more easily and will read it and re-read it forevaaahhhh!! (And I totally agree with the other reviewer.. a sequel would be awesome.. just saying.. OR I would totally read him with Scorpius.. ;D)

*I* was blown away by your characterisation. It was spot on and I couldn't believe how much information you managed to get from our short talk either. You should DEFINITELY write them more. DEFINITELY.

Heeeee! That line was genius! Loved it. I finally understand why he is so huggable in my head. :D

Thank you again, hon. You made my day! ♥

Heey, you wrote Hugo! Like, no one, almost literally, writes Hugo, and he's my favourite next-gen person! :D Hell, I'll even read het to get my eyes on that babe! :) And - before I entirely forget to mention it in my enthusiasm - it's a lovely story! They're so young it's probably for the best that they're not full-on in love yet, but that vibe between them was wonderful! I hope you explore that in any of your future stories and maybe write a sequel! :)
Morning made! :D
